The different mounting options for electric motors.

An electric motor’s mounting depends on its application, with various options available to suit specific requirements. These options are detailed below.

SOCO Motor Feet Mounting 0326

B3 – Foot Mount

  • Motor sits on feet and bolts to a base plate.
  • Most common option; feet are cast into the frame.
  • Stable, easy to install.
  • Ideal for pumps, blowers and compressors.

SOCO Motor Flange D Mounting 0326

B5 – Flange (D) Mount

  • Large front flange (D) with bolt holes.
  • No feet.
  • The flange's (D) outer diameter is larger than motor body.
  • Saves floor space.
  • Ideal for direct drives, pumps or gearboxes.

B35 – Foot + Flange (D) Mount

  • Motor has feet and a large flange (D).
  • The flange's (D) outer diameter is larger than motor body.
  • Flexible mounting using feet and flange or just flange depending on installation.
  • Fits horizontal or vertical setups.
  • Good for retrofits and replacements.

SOCO Motor Face C Mounting REV0326

B14 – Face (C) Mount

  • Motor mounts via the spigot on face (C) with bolt holes.
  • No feet.
  • Compact.
  • Ideal for small pumps, fans, and limited-space installations.

B34 – Foot + Face (C) Mount

  • Motor mounts on feet and the spigot on the face (C) with bolt holes.
  • Flexible mounting using and face or just face depending on space and requirements.
  • Flexible installation.
  • Suitable for pumps, fans and retrofit applications.

SOCO Motor Vertical Mounting 0326

V1, V18 – Vertical Mount

  • Motor can be installed with shaft down 9most common) or up.
  • Mounting possible by feet, face (C), or flange (D), depending on motor design.
  • Requires thrust bearings to handle axial loads.
  • Rain hat recommended for outdoor protection.
  • Perfect for vertical pumps, aerators and tight spaces.

Terminal box positions on three phase motors are either fixed to the top (standard) or positioned to the left or right through movable motor feet. ABB three phase motors have the terminal box fixed to the top when viewing from the drive end shaft. Brook Crompton motors removable feet allow the terminal box to be positioned to the top, right or left. Below are the standard and vertical mounting options with the standard top terminal box position. Terminal box and mounting information is required when specifying your motor requirements.
